    HELLO.

    I’m Jessica Romero

    life in a disability world

  • About Me

My name is Jessica Romero I am 39 years old with Nemaline Rod Myopathy also known as (Muscular Dystrophy) I was born on May 15th 1984, in San Bernardino Ca my mother cross the border from mexico to california to have me. when I was born the doctor told my mother that I will never walk again and I will have to be on a ventilator for the rest of my life, they also told her I need a feeding tube because I can’t eat by mouth at all my mother left me in the hospital and she never look back I grow up all by myself with no family, I been to group homes to foster homes I had to learn how to do everything in life all alone with no support or anything. I had nobody to tell me what is wrong or what is right in life I just had to teach myself everything in life when I finally turn 18 years old I got the opportunity to go live on my own that was the happiest day of my life so I found a apartment in Chatsworth Ca, I was learning how to live on my own with paying bills and being responsible in life. In 2006 I met the love of my life his name is Jason we met through one of my best friends name Juila me and her used to live together in the hospital she was one of my best friends she found me online and we started talking then she ask me do you have a boyfriend I said no I don’t why then she told me I have someone for you I was like no it is okay not right now. She told me please just try I promise you he is one of a kind so I said ok let’s try so she gave him my number and he actually called me we started talking and talking then one day I told him I want to met you so he came to my house in Chatsworth Ca, he live in South Los Angeles on December 26th 2006 we met and we both fell in love that was the most beautiful moment of both of our life’s after the first day we met he never left me he move into my apartment and we been together ever since. One day we was both talking and we both wanted to start our own little family but there was billions of things going through our head because of my disability like how can I have a baby or would the child be in a wheelchair just like me, so we took the chance and we try and on the first try I got pregnant we both look at each other and was like wow!!! It can’t be real but it was real I went to the doctor and took a test and both test came back positive because of my disability I had to find a high risk doctor the only doctor who was willing to take my case was located at East Los Angeles Ca, the hospital was called White Memorial Hosptial. We went to our first appointment and I was 8 weeks pregnant so we went back home and we both told ourselves we are ready so here we go towards this beautiful journey I will have with you. Every week we go to the doctor to check on our baby everything was going so well then of course one day the doctor told us you need to get a abortion me and my husband was like yeah right!! You are crazy, but we never believe in that kind of stuff I told them no I am not getting a abortion then the doctor said you will die along with your baby I said I am not going to die because we believe in god and we know god will take care of me and our family. at 20 weeks we found out what we are going to have, we was going to have a beautiful girl we was so happy and excited on having a girl I always wanted a girl so we had two weeks left before I will have her on my last check up the doctor told us we had to pick a date to have her so me and my husband discuss it and we pick May 15th the same birthday as mine. On May 15th, 2013 we went to the hospital and had our beautiful daughter name Isabella Arzate she was the most beautiful girl ever and we was both so happy to have her. If I would have listen to the doctor I will have never know how to be a mother I told myself I will never treat my own child, how my own mother treated me so horrible in my life. When I had Isabella I promise myself I will treat her how a child is supposed to be treated with love and happiness and knowing that she has a mom and dad in her life.

I had to stay in the hospital for almost 1 months due to my disability but the delivery was a success she weigh 6lbs 02 oz and 18 inches she was so big I did have a c-section because I was not able to push due to my muscle being so weak. When we first brought her home we didn’t even know what to do or how to do it we just had to learn by ourselves me and my husband but we did it every 2 hours getting up changing her diaper and feeding her then go back to sleep then 2 hours later doing the same thing at first it was extremely difficult for us but we told ourselves we can do this I know we can do it. We took very good care of her everyday of her life so every year she kept growing up into this beautiful young girl, on May 15th was her 10th birthday it just amazing me it has been 10 years since I had Isabella she has changed both of our life forever she has grow up to be such a beautiful young girl, she help me everyday if I need suction what that means is I have to suction my treach because I can’t cough on my own so the suction help me to take out the flame that is suck in my throat I taught Bella how to help me with that and she got it on the first try she is very smart and bright. This is my beautiful story I hope I can inspire people around the world not only that but also to the disabled community as well if you think you can’t do anything in life think again yes you can do anything in life don’t give up on life always fight for what you want and go for your dreams. Please feel free to send me a message I would love to hear from all of you.
